The popularity of old adage that "the last trading day of the month plus the first four of the following month were the best days of the month." This study allows traders to test this knowledge, by simply looking at a chart. Use the SYMBOL menu to choose which market you are looking at, and choose the DATES menu to choose a starting and stopping date (left and right). Next choose the DATA menu to select from point change or percentage change. Now choose Days before(-)/after(+) the 1st trading day button, and select a value ( count from the beginning of the month to the end. We use a 21 day trading month, with +11 days from the beginning and -10 from the end. The 1st trading day is +1, and the last is -1). Follow this with a choice of the next Days before(-)/after(+) the 1st trading day button ¿ using the same date format.

After hitting the GET REPORT button, you will see a table show ing how the market performed during the testing period. For example, if you chose the S&P 500 (SPY) and -4 to +1, you would see the results of buying the SPY on the 4th to last trading day of the month and exiting on 1st trading day of the following month.

This report is useful for discovering

• The normal money flow of the market throughout the year for the specific index or sector you are looking at.
• When, historically, is the best time to time purchases or sell based on the calendar effect of the stock market on a specific index or group basis.
